Random FB Stream of Consciousness of a Black Chick in Europe

Because this blog talks about all sorts of random wonderfulness, I thought it would be a perfect place to blog about my experiences in Europe…all told in a series of lovely 160 character limits – via Facebook!  Yes...apparently, Facebook WAS enough.  This blog post will be more about some of the cultural observations I experienced while in Europe. Most of these are actual FB posts, but some are thoughts that I really should've expressed on FB.

AJtheFoodie. Two people gossipping sounds the same in any language. Lol ionknow what this girl is talking about but I know its something salacious.

AJtheFoodie. So...apparently a Belgian redneck is one that wears fake armani, hermes, and louis vuitton, drives a car he can't afford to pay for nor gas, and shops at Aldi. Rofl!

AJtheFoodie. Woo! the weekend's here! The streets of Brussels are all the way live. Folks kick it here even in cold and snow lol

AJtheFoodie. a few observations: 1. all women will justify any food esp if it has chocolate on it. my poor waffle got eye raped in the elevator. 2. ISM(especially class and race-isms)s are everywhere. the bartender refused to speak to the flemish girl in our group, ignored her, and was extra cordial/friendly to the french speaking folks. i immediately got ho...t. *smh* apparently flemish/french relations in BG are similar to race relations here in the US.

AJtheFoodie. A few more cultural observations: Belgians think the only restaurants that exist in the US are fast food joints - KFC, McDonalds, Subway. American 'style' food at a Belgian grocery store = not american. For real. No american I know eats ground up pork salad. And - it's officially Christmas. Why? b/c I heard Donnie Hathaway's This Christmas while shopping at the Christmas market.

AJtheFoodie. needs to not trust her lame and marmy coworkers (that I just realized don't wear any shoe with a heel higher than a flip flop). I see plenty of European women wearing boots with heels. Granted not necessarily stilettos, but fashionable nonetheless. Oh well. I'll be the fat & fashionable American with the flat knee boots.

AJtheFoodie. Did this congolese cat just wave and honk at me? Smh. My mom told me not to talk to strangers. LOL!

AJtheFoodie. LOL - My colleagues were salty because I scored some (SWEET!) free company merchandise. Closed Mouths don't get fed. Worst they can say is no, right?. :-) Next time I go to Belgium, I'm gonna bring back some goodwill gifts to my peeps over here. They always take care of me when I'm here. :)

AJtheFoodie. time to hit the streets and figure out what to eat for dinner. I miss being able to quickly travel to get some interesting cuisine... *sigh*

AJtheFoodie. American restaurant count: so far we are at 5: McD, Subway, Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Chi-chis. They stay packed...full of non americans. I did try McD tho...got a royale with cheese. :)

AJtheFoodie. @Grand Place.   Manekin Pis is really cute!

AJtheFoodie. My declaration: As long as I am in this corporate rat race and its just my hubby and I, I will always work for a global company. More opportunity to travel. :-)

AJtheFoodie. Total fatgirl move of the year. = Asking your hotel room housekeeping to give you some extra cookies with her english breakfast tea. Doesn't sound so bad...but I had to look up how to ask in French on google translate. I came home to a stack of cookies! ROFL! I also thanked her for cleaning my room so well. ;) Merci.

AJtheFoodie. Is convinced. I have been eating royally. And haven't gained a pound. Chemical free food is the way to go. Oh and daily walking doesn't hurt either. :)

AJtheFoodie. a food related cultural observation: ask me one more dang time if this is the most vegetables i've eaten in a long time. Beleive it or not, frenchy...I eat plenty of fresh veggies on a daily basis. you really have got your nerve. ole wine drinking, waffle eating, french fry dipping in mayo, chocolate eating tails.

AJtheFoodie. another cultural observation: european chicks are generally quite stylish. but um. just because you throw on tights and boots doesn't mean that you wear hotpants and dresses that just barely cover your butt. don't get me wrong. the outfit is cute, but you're freezing your little bum and hoohaa. the hoohaa doesn't l...ike to be frozen.

AJtheFoodie. At the train station...on the way to amsterdam! So excited. Travel rox my world.

AJtheFoodie. My husband has jokes. talking about 'don't eat the brownies!'. LOL. I do not plan on eating (or drinking or smoking for that matter) at the coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Might take a picture tho.

AJtheFoodie. random foodie comment: howcome no matter WHAT city I go to, I always manage to find chinatown/little asia, etc? :leave:  And what are these red lights over the wind-...nevermind.  LOL.

AJtheFoodie. OhShyt! I think this hooker just cursed me out in Dutch for trying to take her picture! (@Red Light District)

AJthefoodie:  Homes in Amsterdam were built leaning forward to appear larger to homebuyers.

AJtheFoodie:  Wait.  @MadameTussaud-Amsterdam.  Why did they take a mold of JenniferLopez's butt.  #herbuttaintthatbig

AJtheFoodie. So what you are saying is that u want me to take my bookbag to a cafe to see if they can hold it in order to go into the anne frank museum? Ill take a gtfooh with a side of you must be smoking that Thai weed they're selling in the coffeeshops.

AJtheFoodie.  Those Dutch now a thing or two about flowers.

AJtheFoodie:  So Interesting!  Vending machine fast food!  (Seriously - you put a euro or two into the coin slot, and you can get fresh hot croquettes, fries, sandwiches.)

AJtheFoodie. welp. that's all folks. I finished my Amsterdam Lite course, and now it's time to get back to home for the next few days. Hope you enjoyed my random status messages! :-) I want to say more re: amsterdam, but, I'll save them for a blog post.

AJtheFoodie.  at my train stop in Brussels.  But the conductor told me to stay here until they connect trains. so here i wait.

AJtheFoodie. um...why the f--- has this train started to move?!  

AJtheFoodie.  WTF do you mean that there aren't any more train stops from here til Paris!!?!?!

AJtheFoodie. Ok. Hubby has a point.  Stuck in Paris.  boohoo. Life could be worse.  But still! *sniffle*

AJtheFoodie.  FML.  Stuck in Paris until 6am.  Guess I'd better cash in some Marriott points!  

AJtheFoodie:  Dear tiny little French wino man at the Paris Du Nord train station, please leave me alone.  I don't need your assistance in hailing a cab.  ROFL! But it was my fault for asking him a question. DONT TALK TO STRANGERS!

AJtheFoodie.  Sweet Baby Jesus.  This is the sexiest hotel room I have ever seen!  (looks sexier in person, trust me) Pink and Grey and Black! Do it!  Too bad i'm too tired to kick it.  I'm right near Arc Du Triomphe on Champs Elysees.  And why was this joker 400 euro a NIGHT ($523)?  Thank God for Marriott points!!

AJtheFoodie. Rofl. At newark airport. A pidgeon just walked by me. No I'm serious.

AJtheFoodie. It is a christmas miracle that I didn't get overlimit fees. Pray to sweet baby jesus nothing gets broken.

AJtheFoodie. Just realized that one of her life dreams is closer to becoming true. I've been on 3 of 7 continents (Africa, N America (duh), Europe). I'm cool on #7(brr!), but I've got to get to Asia, Australia, and S. America!!

AJtheFoodie. And my first stateside meal shall be...pizza and pop. Imma post about this giveaway on my blog, change and then its goodnight. Thanks for following me on my european adventures!
