*sigh*
There is something that has been bothering me lately. In this new age of social networking, I tend to interact with more people on a regular basis than I would have, say...5-10 years ago. I have groups of "friends" that I've accumulated from work, church, school, childhood, mutual friends, random interactions, internet travels, etc...and those friends come from a variety of different backgrounds and beliefs, and that's all good. I try not to be a judgmental person. I'm very accepting of all sorts of people who may not necessarily think like I do, but it really bothers me when I come across someone who isn't the same.
She has a relaxer and you have a natural...why does she have to be unenlightened or suffering from self-hatred? Maybe she just prefers straight hair. MIND YOUR OWN FOLLICLE!!
You don't believe in God, but I do...why insult what I believe? Must you take digs at my faith every chance you get and tell me why I'm foolish for believing what I believe? Stay in your lane!
You are a vegetarian, I like meat. Must you go all PETA on me and criticize my food WHILE I'm eating it? Ugh
I voted for Obama and you voted for McCain. Is it really necessary to tell me how the country is going to go to hell in a handbasket because we elected "that one"?
Just a few examples, and I could go on and on, but for the sake of brevity, I won't. I just don't get why people think that THEIR way of living is the end-all/be-all of everything. I don't like judgmental people. If there is something about you that I don't agree with, unless it's directly affecting me, I probably won't call you on it. Not for the sake of discussion. If I express my opinion, it's not going to be me attacking you directly and calling you into a debate, it's just me expressing my opinion in general. You will never see me getting into a war of wills with someone about why they are the way that they are, or why they believe what they believe, especially if it's unsolicited. I just don't feel like in the end, it's worth it. You are entitled to your own opinion and beliefs, even if I don't agree with them.
Some of my best responses to people like that are:
"Your opinion is noted" (and if I feel like being snarky, I'll add "and summarily dismissed"...but I digress)
"And you are??"
"And you're telling me that because...?"
Or I will just actively ignore you. *shrugs*
Is it just me?
